Changed the homepage to Random
Written by Jonathan Tuesday September 22, 2009

So I decided to swap the Latest page as the homepage with the Random page. I felt that many messages were getting buried deep in the Latest section and this was the best way to make sure that all messages get a chance to be seen. There are some really good submissions and I'd hate to see them just be forgotten. If I see that traffic goes down or people complain about the new change I'll be more than happy to swap the pages again. I'll give it a week to see how things turn out.

I've been noticing that a few users like to get trigger happy with the fix it counters on their messages. One person hit "Fix It!" one hundred and eight times within just a few minutes. I just want you guys to know that I can monitor this behavior and will set it back to zero. I would rather have our sort of "honor system" in place instead of requiring you to log in because one of the key components of the site is that it is anonymous. I hope you all understand. Thanks again for reading!

Here are some of my favorites since my last post:

#304 - You are never gonna hook up with a chick by asking her age/sex/location check.....

#317 - Just because you ask the universe for something and it gives it to you- doesn't mean you...

#332 - Don't spread peanut butter on your balls and let your dog lick it off. He's a freakin pitbull...

#352 - You know that kid that bullies you in school? He's gonna steal your apple juice today...

#379 - Your wife doesn't have a headache. She just hates having sex with you. Go practice...

#442 - Today you will run into your whore of an ex and her new b/f. Make sure to ask her...

#451 - Don't interrupt Taylor Swift's acceptance speech at the VMAs. Everyone will hate you...

Some new enhancements & 300 Messages to the past, SENT!
Written by Jonathan Thursday August 13, 2009

Hey everyone, Jonathan here. Just wanted to fill you in on some current projects and new enhancements I've made to the site in the past couple weeks.

  1. Footer - I've created a new footer that will allow me to post more links for your viewing pleasure. FMP related links will take you to our facebook fan page, twitter page, etc. Recommended links are sites that I feel relate to FixMyPast and have similar content that you might enjoy. If you would like to post your site under this category let me know.

  2. Spam - So I hope I'm not jumping the gun here but I think we've finally won the war against the spammers that keep leaving links under comments. Unfortunately I had to disable posting links altogether but I haven't seen any spam in over 48 hrs so I'm assuming that this issue is solved.

  3. Username/Login - Creating a user login/password is something that I would like to implement down the line. As the site is fairly new and unfamiliar, it was in my best interest to keep the simplest method for users to post content. However, once the FMP community grows this is something I will definitely be looking into.

  4. Time Machine - I lost a bidding war for one on ebay and since then no luck. Sorry.

Since launch, 300 messages have been sent and it's exciting to hear the positive feedback that I've been getting from some of you. I've read all of the messages and I'd like to leave you with some of my favorites:

#141 - One day you'll come home from school early and you'll hear some noises upstairs....

#183 - So you just moved into newport beach for your senior year of college about 3 weeks ago...

#232 - When you move into the dorms, you will share a bunk bed with your new roomate who...

#260 - Dear me, don't EVER shit in a bar bathroom. EVER!!! Cause the one single time you finally ...

Message to the FixMyPast.com Community
Written by Jonathan Tuesday July 28, 2009

Hello FixMyPast.com Users!

My name is Jonathan and I am the founder of FixMyPast.com. First and foremost, I would like to thank all of you for visiting the site and hope that you enjoy reading the content as much as I do. The success of FixMyPast is ultimately decided by its users and so far everyone has really been supportive and helpful in making this possible.

FixMyPast.com officially launched July 14, 2009. The idea for the site came from a simple discussion with some co-workers during our lunch hour around six months ago. While arguing about the movie "Back to the Future", I posed the question: "If you could send a message to yourself in the past, what would it be?" Many had some interesting answers which made me curious about what others would say. After seeing the success of sites like FML and TFLN, I thought it would be great to use these as influences for a site that would allow users to share their message to the past. So far I'm happy to say that a lot of people in the world have some fixing to do!

The page you are currently viewing will serve as the FMP News and Blog, where I will update the FixMyPast community with any changes or enhancements made to the site. I would also like to invite you to make any suggestions that you feel might improve the site's usability since the content is created by you. If you want to make a suggestion or leave feedback, please feel free to e-mail me directly at jonathan@fixmypast.com. Currently, I am the sole designer, developer, and moderator of FixMyPast.com. I can guarantee that your feedback will be read and I will do my best to take your ideas and incorporate them into the site when possible.

Recently I have been featuring some of your submissions on the Facebook Fan Page and Twitter but realize that not everyone gets a chance to see these. As a result, I will also use this section to post some of my favorite submissions with a little commentary from yours truly.

Hope you enjoy the site and looking forward to help you fix your past.

Thanks,
Jonathan
